For our Engineering Department, we are looking for a:

TECHNICAL COMMUNICATOR

Description
The Technical Communicator acts as principle internal contact for equipment manufacturers in resolving service/repair problems. Provides written service/repair information from manufacturer, research technical service information when unavailable to service technicians from existing resources. Occasionally writes service/repair manuals or instructional briefs for use by technicians in resolving unique or unusual service/repair problems and other related activities, if required.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Review manufacturers and trades catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
• Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
• Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
• Select photographs, drawing, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
• Arrange for formatting, reproduction, and distribution of material.
• Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to obtain information on new products to better provide technical assistance.
• Expedite location of part numbers and custom parts for machines services/repaired.
• Assist service staff and technicians with troubleshooting and resolution with product issues.
• Use DSN system to communicate product issues to Caterpillar and ensure follow-up as required.
• Respond to internal and external customer inquiry and questions timely.
• Escalate high priority issues and customers to Manager, Technical Services and Caterpillar District Service Representatives.
• Provide technical advice on warranty issues to warranty analysts.
• Prepare failure analysis reports as required by Caterpillar and/or customer.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or mechanical engineering with three (3) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in the heavy equipment industry is preferred.
• Experienced in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment product line and systems operation is an advantage.

Reporting structure
The Technical Communicator reports to the Reliability Superintendent.

Work Schedule

• 45 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
• The base work location is at Surmac Wanica and the working hours are from 7:30 – 16:15.
• Availability for work at various Surmac locations and customer locations.
• Availability outside standard working hours, if required.
